I attempted to start collecting pin badges during a trip to NYC one summer ages and ages ago. I bought a taxi shaped one and I think maybe a round one that just said the city's name on. I pinned the round one to my school bag which obviously fell off over time, leaving me with only the back clasp. Lately I've seen a resurgence in the trend of people wearing them on their side bags or pinned to their hats. Last weekend I went into London to see my older brother and can remember waiting at the till in Goodhood; on the side were all the pins you could buy in a neat formation, ranging from just the brand name to fuck it all printed on enamel. Pin badges are like wearing a brand or making a statement on a very small scale. I like how they add a finishing touch to any clothing accessory whilst showcasing something personal.
